ازدهرت المجلات النسائية في مصر في أوائل القرن العشرين مثل مجلة ”المرأة المصرية” و”مصر الفتاة” وأنيس الجليس” و”النهضة النسائية” وغيرها. خاطبت هذه المجلات المرأة العربية، ودعتها إلى القيام بدورها في المجتمع العربي، وصاحبت الحركة النسائية وغيرها من المتغيرات الاجتماعية والسياسية التي تفجرت في ذلك الوقت. جاءت المجلات والصحف تسجل خطوات الحركة النسائية المصرية، وتعرف الناس بأخبار النهضة النسائية في العالم، وتقارن وضع المرأة العربية بوضع النساء في المجتمعات الغربية، وتطالب بالحق في العمل والمواطنة والتعليم، وإنهاء العزلة، والمساواة التامة مع الرجال. يحتوي كتاب ”معركة المرأة المصرية للخروج من عصر الحريم” على مجموعة من المقالات المهمة التي نشرت في القرن العشرين، متضمنة بعضاً من ألمع الأسماء، مثل نبوية موسى وحسن صبحي وحليمة يسري وفاطمة نعمت راشد ودرية شفيق وغيرهم. (ملحوظة: تنقص مقدمة المحرر بعض الصفحات ولكن المقالات جميعها كاملة).Women’s magazines flourished in Egypt in the early twentieth century with publications such as Egyptian Women and Masr Al-Fatah (Egypt, The Woman) and Anees Al-Galees (The Seated Companion), The Feminine Progress and many more. Focusing on Arab women, they called for them to take their rightful place in Arab society. Accompanying the women’s movement and the various social and political changes that took place at the time, they chronicled the journey and progress of the changes taking place in society, informing the public of the news, and comparing the status of Arabic women with their Western counterparts. The various magazines, periodicals and journals called for women’s right to work, education, and representation, rights of citizenship, the end of segregation and complete equality with men. This book, The Struggle of Egyptian Women to Leave the Age of the Harem, presents important excerpts, especially articles, which were published in the twentieth century in such magazines, including some of the most famous names of the day such as Nabawiyya Moussa, Hassan Sobhy, Halima Yousri, Fatma Neamat Rashed, Doria Chafik and others.
