يبحث كتاب ”البغاء عبر العصور” موضوعاً لم يتم التطرق إليه كثيراً،ألا وهو موضوع أقدم مهنة في التاريخ. مهنة البغاء والبغايا الموجودة في كل مجتمعات العالم منذ فجر التاريخ، وهي حقيقة ينكرها البعض، ولا يعترف بها الكثيرون إلا سراً. وتخوض المؤلفة في هذه الظاهرة من خلال خبرتها بوصفها محامية، فتوضح كيف تكون البغيّ في معظم الأحيان، إن لم تكن كلها، ضحية الجهل والعوز وعدم الإدراك، وكذلك ضحية الأب والأخ والزوج والحبيب، وضحية المجتمع ككل. وتبحث الكاتبة أسباب البغاء ودوافعه عبر العصور، فتقدم تاريخ البغاء والرق منذ الحضارات القديمة حتى الآن، كما تناقش ذكر البغاء في الأديان السماوية الثلاثة، والنظرة الاجتماعية والقانونية الحديثة للبغاء، من قوانين وعقوبات وتشخيص وعلاج ، وغير ذلك.Prostitution through the Ages examines a rarely broached subject; the oldest profession in history, prostitution, exists in all societies- a fact which most deny and many only admit secretly. Drawing on her experience as a lawyer, the writer takes a closer look at the issue, arguing that in most, if not all cases, prostitutes are victims –victims of ignorance, need, lack of knowledge; victims of a father, a brother, a husband or a lover; and victims of society as a whole. The writer discusses the reasons and/or driving forces behind prostitution over the ages, from ancient civilisations until the present time. She explores references to prostitution in the three monotheistic religions, and the common socio-legal view of prostitution nowadays, as well as the usual legal approach to prostitution whether in law, punishment, diagnosis, therapy and otherwise
