The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized “A Warm Evening with Somaya’s Voice” in memory of the late academic, writer, and translator Dr. Somaya Ramadan, Professor of Literary Criticism at the Higher Institute of Art Criticism, and the former Head of Department at the Academy of Arts. The event was held on Tuesday 15 October 2024, at the WMF headquarters in Cairo.

The WMF invited Somaya Ramadan’s readers, colleagues, and dear ones to read excerpts from her works. The participating readers included Hala Kamal, Walid al-Hamamsi, Mahmoud al-Wardani, Sahar al-Mougi, Dina Nuwair, Heba al-Saadi, and Fatma Qandil.

Somaya Ramadan was one of the most prominent female figures in Egypt’s culture scene, celebrated for her novels and numerous literary translations. She also collaborated with the Women and Memory Forum on editing one of its publications, Women’s Time and Alternative Memory, released in 1998.
