The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized a film review seminar to discuss the Egyptian documentary film The Brink of Dreams with its directors Nada Riyad and Ayman al-Amir, and some of its cast, members of Panorama El Barsha Troupe. The seminar was held on Tuesday 12 November 2024, at the WMF headquarters in Cairo, and moderated by Dr. Iman Ezz al-Din.
The Brink of Dreams follows a group of young women from the village of al-Barsha, as they establish a theater troupe. Touring the streets of their village in the Minya Governorate in Southern Egypt, Panorama El Barsha Troupe performs street shows addressing feminist and social issues within a theatrical framework, composed and performed by the troupe members. The documentary won the Golden Eye Award at the 77th edition of the Cannes Film Festival in 2024.
The WMF seminar was held in conjunction with the film’s screening in Egyptian cinemas.
