Topics which are particularly important in this collection include reflections on Arab women and their right to life and liberty, as well as their essential role in social and national progress. The works of May Ziyade represent the aspirations of enlightened writers towards literary innovation, both in form and content. This book, like many of the writer’s works, embodies both Arab women’s ambition and their nation’s strife in that particular historical moment to advance and build their society and country.

She is the first woman to be editor of an opposition newspaper and the second women to be editor of a newspaper in Egypt after Rose Al Youssef. El Naqqash played a strong role in NGOs as the board director of the Forum for Women in Development and member of the board of trustees of the Egyptian Organisation for Human Rights. Born in 1949, she worked in various magazines and newspapers such as Al Ahali, The Left, The Arabs-London and Adab wa Naqd magazine. She has several publications to her name, three of which deal with prison. This book is one of them. Prison: Two Tears and a Rose recounts her experience as a political prisoner from 1979-1981, the time when she was sentenced for belonging to the Egyptian communist party.

Both covenants demand that participant countries serve and protect a large number of human rights, and the optional Protocol gives individuals and countries the right to complain about or report any violation of the human rights. The Arab Organization of Human Rights: Key Documents, December 1985 includes these three key texts in the field of human rights, translated here into Arabic.
