يتمحور العدد رقم 30 من مجلة” ألف: مجلة البلاغة المقارنة” المعنون” الفجيعة والذاكرة” حول الصدمة والفاجعة وحضورهما في الذاكرة الفردية والجماعية. كانت الدراسات في هذا المجال تدور عادة حول المآسي التي وقعت في الغرب، ولكن هذا العدد يسعى إلى توسيع حقل دراسات الفجيعة والذاكرة لتشمل تجارب في مناطق اخرى من العالم: الجزائر ومصر والعراق وإيران والهند وإيرلندا ولبنان وفلسطين وباكستان، وأمريكا المتعددة العرقيات، والعالم القديم. تبحث المقالات الأكاديمية والشهادات الشخصية في أثر الكوارث والصدمات على الجنس الأدبي والسينما والرواية والثقافة الشعبية والشعر والمسرح والفن التشكيلي. ”ألف” هي مجلة أدبية نقدية سنوية تنشرها الجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة وتقدم مقالات بالإنجليزية والعربية وأحياناً الفرنسية.Issue 30 of Alif: Journal of Comparative Poetics entitled Trauma and Memory focuses on the presence of trauma and loss in collective and individual memory. While scholarly studies have focused largly on traumas enacted in the West, this issue extends the subject field to include other parts of the world: Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, India, Ireland, Lebanon, Palestine, Pakistan, multi-ethnic America and ancient Greece. The articles and personal testimonies explore the impact of such tragic events on literature, film, fiction, folk culture, poetry, drama and visual arts. Alif is an annual periodical published by The American University in Cairo Press, and presents articles in English, Arabic, and occasionally, French.العدد رقم 29 من مجلة ”ألف: مجلة الأدب المقارن” التي تصدرها الجامعة الأمريكية بالقاهرة يحمل عنوان ”الجامعة وهمومها: محلياً وعالمياً”، ويدور حول مسئولية الجامعة في طرح الأسئلة، في وقت تتعرض فيه نفسها للأسئلة حول دورها ومكانتها في العالم. يبحث العدد فكرة الجامعة، الموضوع الذي قد أثار الكثير من الجدل والتساؤل والمراجعة والأزمات، ويحاول الرد على العديد من الأسئلة، منها: كيف تحمي الجامعات قدرتها على النقد الاجتماعي والفكر الحر في العالم اليوم، في الوقت الذي تسيطر فيه التحيزات السياسية والمصالح المالية على الحرم الجامعي والوسائل البحثية؟ وكيف تتوازن تقاليد الجامعة الإنسانية الليبرالية مع تفكير الطلاب اليوم؟ وكيف تتحمل أو تصمد مؤسسات الجامعة ومُثلها العليا، التي تم تأسيسها في الثقافات الكلاسيكية، في زمن تحركه عقول إليكترونية حوسبية رقمية متعولمة؟ تضم مجلة ”ألف” التي تصدر سنوياً مجموعة من المقالات بالعربية والإنجليزية وأحياناً الفرنسية.Issue 29 of Alif: Journal of Comparative Poetics entitled The University and its Discontents: Egyptian and Global Perspectives issued by the American University in Cairo explores universities’ task of questioning at a time when the role and status of the university itself is put to question. The issue explores the concept of a university amid contestation, revision, and crisis. It poses several questions such as: How can universities today preserve their capacity for social critique and independent thought when their campuses and research facilities have been both literally and figuratively infiltrated by corporate interests and “support”? How does the tradition of the liberal arts square with the thoughts of today’s students? And how do the university’s institutions and ideals, born in classical culture, fare in a world where everything, education included, is computer mediated, virtualized and globalized? ALIF is a bilingual (English/Arabic) journal- sometimes publishing articles in French- issued annually
