كان عباس محمود العقاد (1889-1964) أديباً ومفكراً وصحفياً وشاعراً مصرياً من أصول كردية. وقد قام بتأسيس مدرسة الديوان الأدبية بالتعاون مع إبراهيم المازني وعبد الرحمن شكري، وكانت هذه المدرسة داعية إلى التجديد في الشعر والخروج به عن القالب التقليدي العتيق. اتجه العقاد إلى العمل بالصحافة مستعيناً بثقافته وسعة اطلاعه، فاشترك مع محمد فريد وجدي في إصدار صحيفة الدستور. ولم يتوقف إنتاجه الأدبي أبداً، من مقالات وتراجم وكتب وشعر. واشتهر بمعاركه الفكرية مع أشهر أدباء عصره، وتُرجمت بعض كتبه إلى اللغات الأخرى. كما فاز بجائزة الدولة التقديرية في الآداب غير أنه رفض تسلمها، ورفض الدكتوراة الفخرية من جامعة القاهرة. وقد تجاوزت مؤلفات العقاد المائة كتاب، شملت جوانب مختلفة من الثقافة الإسلامية والاجتماعية ، بالإضافة إلى مقالاته العديدة التي تبلغ الآلاف في الصحف والدوريات. وكتاب ”المرأة...ذلك اللغز” هو أحد كتبه الأربعة عن المرأة، يتناول فيه زاوية تنطلق منها رؤيته عن عالم المرأة المليء بما هو غامض ومثير ومقلق من وجهة نظره، كاشفاً بذلك آفاقاً جديدة لإحدى الشخصيات الشامخة في الأدب العربي.Abbas Mahmoud Al Aqqad (1889-1964) was an Egyptian intellectual, writer, journalist and poet of Kurdish descent. He founded the Diwan school of poetry along with Ibrahim Al Mazny and Abd El Rahman Shoukry- one which called for innovation in poetry and the elimination of traditional and clichéd moulds. Al Aqqad also worked as a journalist, displaying his broad knowledge, and founded Al Dostour newspaper with Mohamed Farid Wagdy, quickly becoming famous for his passionate intellectual debate with the major intellectuals of the day. His creative output was immense, stretching for the duration of his life, and including books, anthologies, articles, translations, and biographies. By the time of his death Al Aqqad had written over one hundred books on different Islamic and social topics and thousands of articles in diverse journals and newspapers. In Women…The Mystery, which is one of his four books on women, Al Aqqad delves into the personal, immediate, anxious and enticing world of women, providing great insight into his own intricacies as one of the greatest figures of Arabic literature.
