ولد البحتري، هذا الشاعر العربي الأصيل، في العراق في السنة الثالثة الهجرية تحت اسم الوليد بن عبيد الله، وعاش في عصر ازدهار الدولة العباسية والحضارة العربية في بغداد. وقد جمع عصره بين العديد من المتناقضات : الزهد والزندقة والتطرف والتحفظ. عرف البحتري بشعره، فجرب كل فنون الشعر المعروفة في ذلك الوقت حتى عُدَّتْ قصائده وأغانيه مرآة للعصر لما تضمنته من تصوير لمفرداته، من جنات وقصور وأخبار ومواقف وطرب وغناء ولعب وشراب ومدح وهجاء لشخصيات ومعارضة وموافقة لأحداث. يبحث كتاب ”المرأة في شعر البحتري” صورة المرأة في شعره بوصفها موضوع غزله ومستهل قصائده، وبصفة خاصة في نطاق الظواهر الشعرية الجديدة التي ظهرت في عصره واهتمت بالمرأة، من أساليب المغالاة في التعبير وغيرها من فنون التغزل في المرأة.The Arab poet, Al-Bohtori was born in Iraq with the name Al Walid Bin Obeid Allah in the third year of the hijri calendar, a time when the Abbasid period and Arabic culture was at its peak; yet, it was also, in many ways, an age of contradictions: with asceticism and atheism, conservatism and decadence. Al-Bohtori became known for his poetry, trying his hand at all popular forms at the time, and his verse has stood as a mirror of the age, with its representation of gardens and palaces, news and anecdotes, entertainment and song, wine and revelry, praise and satire and public commentary and participation. Women in Al-Bohtori’s Poetry examines the image of women in the poetry of this great figure of Arabic literature, where the trope of ghazal, or the expression of love, features strongly in the opening lines of his poems. Al- Bohtory’s approach to women comes within the context of the rise of various new poetic forms at the time- forms taking an interest in women, including exaggerated descriptions and the art of flattery.
