عباس محمود العقاد أحد عمالقة الأدب العربي. ولد في أسوان عام 1889، وكتب أكثر من مئة كتاب. وقد جمعت مؤلفاته بين الدين والفلسفة والقصص والسير والشعر. تُرجم الكثير من أعماله إلى الإنجليزية، كما أسس مدرسة الديوان في الشعر. و”سارة” هي الرواية الوحيدة له، وهي رواية رومانسية كتبها عن حبيبته، تكشف أبعاداً مختلفة للأديب الكبير. قسم العقاد روايته سارة إلى 16 فصلاً تدل عناوينها على هوية كل فصل، مثل: ”أهو أنت؟”، ”موعد”، ”الشكوك”،” الرقابة، وكيف الرقابة”، ”القطيعة”، ”من هي؟”، ”وجوه”، ”أيام”، ”لماذا هام بها”، ”حبان”، ”لماذا شك فيها”، و”جلاء الحقيقة”. وسارة بطلة الرواية امرأة شابة يتعرف عليها بطل الرواية همام في منزل مفروش تديره امرأة فرنسية تدعى ماريانا، فيعجب بها وبطريقة حديثها ولباسها، وسرعان ما تتطور العلاقة بينهما لتتحول إلى مواعيد وخلوات. ولكن سارة تخفي سراً مريراً قد لا يبشر بخير للعلاقة.One of the great names in Arabic literature, Abbas Mahmoud El Aqqad was born in Aswan in 1889. He wrote over a hundred books of philosophy, religion, poetry, fiction and biographies, many which were later to be translated to English. He is co-founder of the Diwan school of poetry. His only novel Sara, supposedly written for his beloved, reveals hidden depths to the man of letters. Written in a highly romantic style, the story is divided into sixteen chapters holding descriptive titles such as: “Is it You?”, “A Date”, “Censorship”, “Banishment”, “Who is She?”, “Faces”, “Days”, “Why he Loved Her”, “Two Love Stories”, “Why he Suspected Her” and “The Revelation of Truth”. The story tells of Sara, the heroine, a young woman the hero meets and falls in love with in a house owned by a French Madame called Marianna. Sara hides a bitter secret, however, which looms dark over the relationship.
