WMF Launches Its Latest Publication Endowments in Words and Images

The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized a book launch event to celebrate the release of its latest publication the illustrated book Endowments in Words and Images written by Amina Elbendary and Hoda el-Saadi with illustrations by Sharif Arafa. The book launch event was held on 6 September 2006, and included a discussion seminar and presentation of the WMF’s publications.
Dr. Omaima Abu-Bakr opened the seminar with introductory remarks on the Women and Memory Forum, and was followed by Dr. Nelly Hanna, Professor of Arabic Studies at the American University in Cairo, and Dr. Imad Abu Ghazi, Professor in the Department of Archives at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, and Deputy Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Culture. The seminar discussed the key concepts in the illustrated book, such as the role of women in historical societies, the history and definition of the civil society, and the social, economic, and cultural roles of the endowment institution. Dr. Amal Abou El-Fadl, Lecturer of English Literature at the Faculty of Arts, Cairo University, spoke about youth culture in Egypt and the need to engage young people in the issues concerning the cultural heritage. The seminar concluded with brief presentations by the authors to discuss the idea behind the publication and the production stages of an illustrated book.
Endowments in Words and Images is part of a series of illustrated books published by the Women and Memory Forum to address cultural issues. Previously published in this series is Introduction to Women’s Issues in Words and Images.
