WMF Film Club Screens From Cairo in Episode Seven of “Women’s Tales” Featuring Filmmaker Hala Galal

The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized a film screening of the Egyptian documentary From Cairo (Min al-Qahira) on Monday 2 June 2025, at the WMF headquarters in Cairo. The screening was followed by an open discussion with the film’s director, Hala Galal, marking episode seven of the WMF Film Club “Women’s Tales.”
“Women’ Tales” engages with women’s issues in Arab cinema by hosting monthly screenings of selected films. The screenings are free and open to the public, and feature the women filmmakers for an open discussion with them.
From Cairo follows the path of two women as they try to make it in the city. The documentary won the Award for Best Documentary in the Horizon of Arab Cinema Competition at the 2021 Cairo International Film Festival.
Hala Galal is one of the participants interviewed for the WMF project “The Camera and Her,” launched in November 2024 to document the experiences of Egyptian women filmmakers in the Women’s Oral History Archive.
