The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized a public seminar entitled “Broken Taboos in Post-Election Iran,” featuring Dr. Ziba Mir-Hosseini, an Iranian academic and researcher of legal anthropology in London, specializing in Islamic law, women’s rights, and development. The seminar was held in Cairo on 11 January 2010, and discussed the gender dynamics entangled in the 2009 Iranian presidential elections held in June last year. The seminar shed light on the transformations in gender politics, the question of equality, and the rise of a “rights culture” in Iran after the elections.

Dr. Mir-Hosseini’s article “Broken Taboos in Post-Election Iran” is available online via The Middle East Research and Information Project (MERIP), Broken Taboos in Post-Election Seminar” is available online
