The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized a book discussion of Judith Tucker’s book In the House of Law: Gender and Islamic Law in Ottoman Syria and Palestine, published in 1999. The discussion was held in April 2000, and featured the book author Dr. Judith Tucker, Professor of History at Georgetown University, USA.

During the WMF book discussion, Dr. Tucker shared the significant chronicles in Ottoman sources, among which are court cases and legal fatwas (religious decrees) documented in the court records, such as divorce, khul’, and rape cases.
