WMF Organizes a Roundtable to Discuss the Arab Human Development Report 2005

Share

The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized a roundtable discussion on 14 February 2007 to review the Arab Human Development Report for the year 2005. The report, entitled “Towards the Advancement of Women in the Arab World,” addressed women’s issues in the Arab region.

The WMF roundtable welcomed a group of women researchers and activists who discussed the report’s methodology in addressing issues related to the status of women in Arab countries. Participants also attended a presentation delivered by Dr. Islah Jad, a professor at the Gender Studies Institute, Birzeit University in Palestine, and the leader of the central team responsible for preparing the report. Prof. Jad highlighted some of the methodological challenges that the team faced while preparing the report, and how they negatively impacted the representation of certain issues. She also explained the report’s contribution to women’s rights advocacy in the Arab region.
