The Women and Memory Forum (WMF) organized a public seminar featuring Dr. Diane Singerman, an Associate Professor at the Department of Government, Faculty of Public Affairs, at the American University in Washington DC. The seminar was held in Cairo on 13 December 2010, and posed a new set of questions for the women’s movement. During the seminar, Dr. Singerman discussed the political and economic context and consequences of the rising cost of marriage on the youth in Egypt, and examined how the rising cost of marriage impacted the distribution of gender roles and relations, and how these variables affected the institution of marriage in Egypt.
