The Center for Translation Studies in collaboration with the Institute for Gender and Women’s Studies (IGWS) hosted the Women and Memory Forum (WMF) and its project Feminist Translations in a seminar on “Translation, Gender, and Knowledge Production.” The one-day seminar was held on 9 May 2010 at the Oriental Hall of the American University in Cairo (AUC).
The keynote speeches were delivered by Dr. Samia Mehrez, Director of the AUC Center for Translation Studies, Dr. Martina Rieker, Director of the AUC Institute for Gender and Women’s Studies, and Dr. Hala Kamal, from the Women and Memory Forum.
The first session discussed gender studies across different disciplines, and the editorial decisions regarding the selection of articles to be included in the Feminist Translation Series. The second session delved into the issues of translation and feminist knowledge production. The seminar concluded with a panel discussion that included contributions from all the participants.
