The chapter titled “Rulings on Women’s Issues in Islamic History,” written by Dr. Huda al-Saadi and Dr. Omaima Abu Bakr, and the introduction are now available in open access on the WMF Library website. The open access release is part of the WMF’s mission to make cultural and historical knowledge accessible and raise feminist awareness.
Feminist Readings in Arab Cultural History is a collective project that investigates the mechanisms employed to pigeonhole, stereotype, and marginalize women across different historical periods by approaching a diverse array of issues, texts, and historical writings from an Arab/Islamic feminist perspective. The book rereads history and produces new knowledge about active women overlooked by history with the aim of highlighting the contributions of Arab women researchers, critics, and creatives –past and present.
