Doria Shafik: Rights and Fashion in One Magazine – Bint al-Nil

Share

73 years ago, in November 1945, Doria Shafik published the magazine Bint al-Nil [Daughter of the Nile], a glossy illustrated women’s magazine, published monthly in Arabic for Bint al-Nil Union. Shafik’s signature was on the cover of every issue until she was placed on house arrest. The publication of her three periodicals was permanently suspended in 1957.

We came across the covers of old issues via the Women and Memory Forum’s website.
